Atelier

The atelier is where every objektnumber piece begins. A small Swiss studio run by two friends, built around one filter: would we hang this on our own wall.

How This Started

The idea showed up in 2024. We were working on other people's brands during the day and sketching our own pieces at night. By the fall of 2025 the night work felt more important than the day work, so we gave it a name, a numbering system and a home. OBJEKTNUMBER, one object at a time, each one numbered.

Based in Lucerne, Switzerland. International Minded

The Two of Us

We met years before OBJEKTNUMBER existed, and we kept coming back to the same conversations: what objects should do, what they should not do and why so few of them get it right.

Now we get to answer those questions one piece at a time. Joel draws, Jan asks why, both of us decide when something is ready.

Joel

Pure visual mind. Designs every piece in the shop, picks the colors, sets the visual language of the studio.

Jan

Photographer and designer. Runs the studio side, picks the paper, writes back when you write to us.

What We Promise You

  • Designed in our atelier

Every piece is designed by the two of us in Lucerne. The visual decisions, the materials, the colors, all picked here. We choose the standards.

  • Made to order

Nothing sits in a warehouse. When you order, your piece gets made in Europe* by our fine-art print partner, who specializes in archival Giclée and museum-grade canvas. Slightly slower than off-the-shelf, by design.

  • Each piece numbered

Every design carries a number. Nº 016, Nº 021, Nº 027. It is how we keep track of what we make and the order it came into the world. Each piece in the catalog is part of a numbered series.

  • Built to last

Paper prints are produced on 200gsm fine art paper using Giclée pigment inks, built to hold their color when displayed indoors. Canvas pieces are 400gsm artist-grade cotton, hand stretched, with 200+ year color permanence.

  • If something goes wrong

If your piece arrives damaged, we replace it. No forms, no fight. If you have a question, write to us. One of us writes back, usually within a day.

"We believe objects should outlast trends and remain relevant long after the moment they were made."

Inside the Atelier

This is where the deciding happens. The printing is handled by our partner. Everything before that happens here: the idea, the reworking, the version that finally feels right. A piece might begin as a shape, a word or a photograph one of us cannot let go of. Then it gets questioned, lived with and often dropped.

We would rather lose an idea in this room than ship one we are not sure about. When a piece earns its place, it gets its number. Everything in the shop passed through this room first.
